It is with great pleasure that I announce my intention to participate in the thirteenth annual GBJAM, the Game Boy inspired jam where you can only have four (4) colors at a resolution of one-sixty by one-forty-four (160 x 144), controlled with a D-Pad and four button control scheme.
If you’d like to see what we’ve made for the previous two jams, you can check out my surreal spaceship action game Moonstruck (2023) and my spooky Halloween puzzle-platformer Grief & Garbage (2024).
The two GBJAMs I have participated in, GBJam 11 and GBJAM 12, have been among the most satisfying experiences I have had with game jams. It is no secret that I am fond of the artistic technical limitations imposed by modern history’s most prosperous gray brick, and I am grateful that I can share that fondness with several-hundred fellow developers. From retro throwbacks to homebrew ROMs, these jams have had a broad variety of fun, creative, and nostalgic games made for them, and I know it will be the same this year.
It runs ten days from September 12th, 11 UTC to September 22nd, 11 UTC. Those who submit a game can rate other games during the voting period. The voting and ranking is casual; there are no judges and no prizes, just the opportunity to get feedback and to play cool games!
See you there!
